• 1. How to make switcher widget visible on URL root ?
    2. And how to force redirect root domain to default language ?

Let us say root URL domain is like this: http://www.some-site.com/

    – I did set static home page(s), both right translated and set in menu(s)
    – I tried all possible options in Poliylang settings, even browser detect.
    – Deleted cookies several times, tried different browsers. Nothing helped.

I want when someone type/paste http://www.some-site.com/ to be redirected to http://www.some-site.com/de.
Then both problems from questions 1.- 2. would be solved.

Is it possible with htaccess ? Some Poliylang filter ?

Dont know why is this so damn difficult. Almost smashed my notebook against the wall, lost whole one day on it and cannot solve it.

Installed qTranslate-X plugin and it hit it directly after activation, no setting change needed. It is intelligent, because root domain name as landing page in no way will give you visible switcher widget. Problem with this is also it doesnt list posts with custom wp_query set in template.

Polylang thinks there is no translated content on http://www.some-site.com/, and when site is visited directly by this URL my custom wp_query loop doesnt work on homepage. As soon I click “Homepage” button in menu wp_query works. It is OK, but plugin should assume http://www.some-site.com/ is useless when plugin is activated. And have some option to never show it. (tried all possible options, never worked)

I cannot force Google not to show it and people will visit http://www.some-site.com/. Even if I could force hide it in Google index visitors are free to type this URL manually. Same problem.

A homepage is the entrance to your website – a portal to the rest of your site with the goal of exploring it. It’s usually visited by those who have a direct link to your website. Most of the time the visitors already know you or have done business with you. Your homepage has navigation to other parts of your site such as blogs, products, services, resources, etc.

A landing page design is crucial because you have only a few seconds to catch the users attention. It requires the right balance of providing information that engages the viewer and not too much that it is cluttered. You can have multiple landing pages that appeal to different audiences or that are based on where the user is linking from.

It’s important to understand the difference between the two and know how each can help you convert visitors into customers.

I am not talking of splash page.

Anyway I fixed it with language redirect with htaccess. Browser detection addon never worked.
