Home page image menu with javascript

I have an image-only menu for the home page I’ve developed for a non-wordpress site that I would like to convert to wordpress. I’m thinking about getting a one-page theme but am wondering how to incorporate this image based menu that appears only at the top into a theme. This menu has a css-based animation (no javascript) to reveal the on hover image for each item, so I would need to somehow incorporate this css into the theme but again for the top splash only. Has anybody had experience with modifying one-page themes in this way?
