Sorry, the site in question is
https://mcbrideforassembly.com
How can I use a different image on the home page as I do for headers on other pages? If I change the home page image, the headers change too (except, the header is so cropped that only a strip of the image is visible of course)
My site is http://www.soper.pt
@gwpinetree, it’s probably better if your image is the recommended size, 2000 x 1200. You may find the discussion helpful.
@almadacas This article may help. You can change the header so that it grabs a featured image for the page instead of the image on the front page. I have different images on each page of my site but I made them all big, the same size as the front page. You can follow the advice in the article but omit the code that makes your other images the same size and keep them the way they are. There are all sorts of ways to ‘hack” this theme. Here’s another article I find helpful.
@gwpinetree Sorry, I just realized a link I posted for you didn’t appear. There’s a discussion on header images in the forum that I thought might be relevant for you: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/struggling-with-header-image-in-twenty-seventeen-2/

Btw I have recommended a fix for this not too long ago, worth researching the past few latest pages of the forum.
Thank you, but I am still lost here. To play around with Twenty Seventeen I need to set up a child theme, and Step 1 of the instructions to do this assume I know where to find my ‘theme directory’, and give no clues. Where is it?! I simply want a big feature picture on my Home page (like the standard Twenty Seventeen does in its shop window), and strip headers for the other pages – it can’t be that hard…

@almadacas, Sounds like Twenty Seventeen isn’t for you. You need something that controls focal points of the image and the Twenty Seventeen theme doesn’t do that. To achieve it you need to make a lot of modifications and you must do this through a Child Theme: https://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes
If you want to learn more, please open a new thread: https://wordpress.org/support/theme/twentyseventeen/#new-post
Thank you, could you possibly suggest a more appropriate theme? Or do I need to start a thread “What is the best theme for controlling focal points of the image” on another forum?
