I have transferred a WordPress web site from one hosting company to another. After the transfer I had to update some items and plugins, but was able to login to the control panel ok. I have checked the setting and the site is pointed the the correct domain. The problem is that the home page displays a blank page. If I go to the domain base name ie: http://www.domainname.com the page is blank. However if I add a specific page to the base domain name ie: http://www.domainname.com/about it displays properly. I have also tried creating a static home page and setting the home page to static in WordPress, but it still does the same thing unless I enter http://www.domainname.com/home and then the static home page is displayed ok. Does anyone have an idea what might be causing this?

  • Usually a blank page in PHP is syntax errors, etc. Try looking for the php error log file.

I found the problem with the home page not displaying from the base URL. it was because there was a default.html file in the root directory. The old hosting server must have set the order to look for start files to PHP extension as the first default so it ignored the default.html file in the root directory and loaded index.php. The new hosting server must have the default extension it looks for as an .HTM or .HTML file and was loading the blank default.html file first. Once I deleted the blank default.html file the hosting server started loading the index.php file and displayed the WordPress home page.
