Hiding Your WordPress Test Area HELP

Alright, so I’m in the process of updating the wordpress theme of my website. I have several themes in mind that I would like to edit and play with. I followed the tutorial on this page:

Specifically, I am trying to do the tutorial for “Hiding Your WordPress Test Area”

I’ve completed all the steps, but now what do I do? Do I just put a theme in the private folder and edit it? If that’s the case, how do I see what it will look like?
