Hide specific categories from the category pulldown menu using short codes?

I am posting multiple instances of the calendar using the category id short code, which is displaying properly, but in the Categories pull-down menu all of the categories I’ve created are still displayed and available on click.

Is there a way to hide the categories in that menu to only display the ones that are designated in the category id short code?

I realize that I can password protect specific categories but due to the nature of differing people visiting the site it would be great to make specific categories completely invisible to some but not others depending on which instance of the calendar they are accessing.
