help with have_posts()

I’m new to wordpress and just finished reading up on it (from a developers prespective).

Not sure where to put this.

My question is: is have_posts() and all other functions labeled post used interchangeably for post content and page content? (In relation to dashboard Posts > add new or Pages > add new. So post content and page content. NOT posts mixed into pages.)
