ok, thanks for the speedy replies.. I am a layman, so you will have to excuse me for being ignorant to any of your answers.
To both posters, How do i do the things you are suggesting? i cant log into my admin page all i get is the error.
Once again, sorry for the ignorance, but everyones gotta learn sometime i guess..
use an ftp client or host’s file manager to upload a fresh copy of file
Once you make mistake in functions.php file there no other way but replacing the file so is best to keep back up file before you do any editing in the file.
I second what Samuel B says, but would just like to add that replacing the custom_functions.php file will wipe out any changes you’ve made to that file.
Hopefully you will have a backup copy of a known good version that you can restore, if you’ve made other changes apart from the ones that are giving you this trouble??
To use postbin, please see the forum rules (in the sticky posts)
To copy the code in custom_functions.php, use whatever you were using to make the alterations.

Why do you say that? It’s just PHP, so correcting the error should fix the problem, shouldn’t it? Or is there something going on that I’m not aware of…?

GOT IT.. went into the file manager on my hosts site, and edited the custom php..
Thanks for all your replies guys, very speedy, i guess im learning the hardway, but learning is learning..
Cheers guys..
I have had instances where a newbie who does not know how to edit or use server editor and do not know php as even dot breaks the file so the best advice I can give is make a backup and then just replace file if there is mistake made.
Yes. I can see that. It’s the only way for some people, that’s true.
But not in this case, as it happened…
I think we need to be careful about telling people that there is no other way when there is.
Please don’t take that observation personally, though. It’s a fault I fall into as well, more often than I like.

I think it depends on alot of things, there may be a generic solution in a broad sense, but every host/server/whatever is different in a way. I guess there are ways to do things, but with another host it may not work.
I just played around whilst panicing about my site being down, and hit on the solution. I have since done alot of reading regarding FTP software and such.
Like i said, its all about learning.. so id like to thank everyone who posted so quickly to try and help.
Now i have read up a bit and had some hands on experience, your solutions dont seem so foreign to me..
Cheers!!
