Ok, so if I go to the https version of my site, either:

    https://www.raisstoves.com
    or
    https://raisstoves.com

then it redirects me to a different spammy site!

Regular non-https versions still work fine.

I stumbled across this randomly while I was trying to login to my admin area. I haven’t updated this site in months, and I haven’t tried to access the https version (I have no SSL cert on my server) in who knows how long, so I have no idea how long this redirect has been in place.

I don’t know what my first steps should be. Should I updated to latest wordpress? I looked in my htaccess file and it didn’t look crazy, but maybe something is in there? I’m a designer/front end developer, so I’m not that good with server stuff, but I’m not totally technically incompetent.

How should I proceed with this?

    Thanks for your help!

  • Hi,

I went through your website redirection occurrence. I noticed that https version of your website is redirecting to http version to some other website. It can be achieved by .htaccess or through web server.

Here, the first step you should take is to contact your web hosting provider. Make sure that you are not sharing an IP address on port 443 with shopingmarket.com (however, it is not possible without having control panel/DNS panel details).

Also, scan your website with anti-virus software for any malware injection. If possible restore your website from available clean backup.

    Thanks,

    Hi,
Ok, I figured it out. It apparently has to do with the way apache handles https requests when there is no SSL certificate installed on the domain. In that case, apache redirects you to the site with the primary SSL cert on your ip. In this case the primary SSL cert is just the first one to have been added to the IP. So, that spammy looking shopping site is on the same server as me, using the same IP and they just happened to be the first website on that IP to install an SSL cert. Apparently there is no way around this other than to install an SSL cert on my own domain, so thats what I’m going to do. Thanks for taking a look at this.
