• Hello everyone! We have an older version of WPMU and today we stopped to communicate with wordpress app! That means, our users can no longer post entry through the app! Our version of WPMU is 2.8.6.

We are unable to update all our software now, we have about 50,000 blogs and requires several weeks of work to update to latest version of WP!

When a user tries to post a entry through the wordpress app appears this error message: server error. requested method wp.getPosts does not exist.

As I understand the new app communicate via get_post in xml-rpc?

All thoughts and ideas are extremely grateful for us!

    Best Regards
    Stefan

Your version of WordPress MU is very out of date and full of publicly know security holes. 4.1 is the current version, 2.8.6 was released over five years ago. The mobile apps also only supports the current release and the two previous versions, which means it requires WordPress 3.9.3 at least.

I understand that it will take you a while to get it all up to the latest, but that’s insignificant to losing it all to a publicly known hack. To be perfectly honest, you’re lucky to have made it this far, and we really can’t offer support for very out of date versions.

You can follow this guide to upgrade to WordPress Multisite 3.0.6: https://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WPMU

You can download WordPress 3.0.6 from https://wordpress.org/download/release-archive/

From there, follow this guide to upgrade to WordPress Multisite 4.1: https://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress_Extended#Upgrading_Across_Multiple_Versions

Thank you James! Yes, our version is extremely old! There, I am well aware of 🙂 The problem and the reason that we have managed so far is that we made some changes to the core files, which makes it much more difficult to upgrade. The alternative is to create a completely clean and new version and then import all users!
In the time of this writing, I am in need of a solution and understand every change in the app was made so we can solve it at the moment. It works with Android, but not with the iPhone.

Although the version is old so maybe there’s a fix! Is it mainly get_post in xml-rpc that is new in the latest release of the wordpress app?

Better than being hacked by a publicly know security vulnerabilities, right? 😉

We really can’t help with such old versions here, WPMU is technically discontinued too, replaced by WordPress Multisite.

The folks at https://ios.forums.wordpress.org/ may be able to help, but like I said, they only officially support back to WordPress 3.9.3.

I’m not sure, the folks in the iOS forum will know for sure, but the mobile apps will be switching to the WordPress API when it’s finished, which means you’ll be completely out of luck if you don’t upgrade by then.

Thanks again Jaymes! I understand that there is a big problem with our version! I make an effort in ios forum and see if they have any possible solution!
