    Hello all,

I run into serious problem and would like to ask for urgent help.
    Here is what happened.

    1. Installed WP 1.5 some time ago and it was running well. Obviously there was some tweaking with themes and plugins done. Few days ago my page started to act erratically, so I decided to reinstall WP, which I did, besides I would get 1.5.2. that way.

    2. I did everything according to the upgrading instructions (kept wp-config etc.). Installer said everything was OK and I should have fun… :/
Now, all I get, is blank page. When I try to go to /wp-admin or /wp-login.php, I can not access the admin panel at all, it shows strange thread:

    http://www.bioteka.lv/index.php/wp-login.php?redirect_to=%2Fbioteka%2Fwp-admin%2F’

which seems to mean that it puts index.php in the middle and messes everything up. I even know why – I tried to modify things in Options (while page was working) with Blog url (putting index.php after the blog name, ’cause I wanted a static pic as a first page, which than leads to blog itself). This was one of the reasons I did the reinstall. Problem still there.

Is there a way to fix this? Maybe there is some file where I can correct the path so that I can access the Admin area? Does it mean that problem is reflected in database, since it’s there even after upgrade?…

I put temporary .htm file with “Technical mainatanence” text on my page (www.bioteka.lv) for now, because I can not afford to show blank page to people.

Thank you very much, as this help is needed desperately…

  • Is your new installation in the same directory where the older version was?

Yes, in the same directory. Deleted all the files except for wp-config.php.

    Ideas?… Hints?…… Anybody?..

“with Blog url (putting index.php after the blog name, ’cause I wanted a static pic as a first page, which than leads to blog itself). This was one of the reasons I did the reinstall. Problem still there.”

That is a guaranteed way to break your blog.
You need the same address in both boxes.
    Reset them by following this:
    http://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/site-url/

Get those values the same before we can do any more.

Done! Removed index.php from http://www.bioteka.lv. at both instances.

Hope that there is no need to put slash at the end and http://www.bioteka.lv is OK.
Should I continue with remaining upgrade instructions, like permalinks etc.?

And thank you very very much!

If the blog now works, the rest should go smoothly. If not though, yell this way 🙂

Whoa! It worked. Good lesson to me.
My gratitude to podz for helping hand!

Now I copied over my backup files one by one and managed to catch few bugs that were bothering me before. Interesting fact is that now site looks better in IE than in Firefox (contrary to what is was like before)! 🙂

Btw, another question – how do I set up an intro html page properly? Idea is that I want to have a nice pic when person types the site name, and then by clicking on that pic he gets to blog. This is where I made mistakes that led to site breakdown.
Problem is that if I simply put index.html file in root, it kinda works, but when in blog – if I press any static pages (home, about, contacts etc.), I get redirected back to html page every time.

    Thanks once again.
