Please contact your host and ask them how to switch to a modern version of PHP.
I have they haven’t got back to me (those to be fair it is a Sunday night so) but was hoping there be something I can do. Yesterday i backed up my site so I was thinking about re-installing the wordpress files again. Would that work?
Reinstalling WordPress won’t upgrade PHP version. You might check your hosting control panel though. Sometimes a PHP version selector is provided – if so you can update the version yourself. PHP 7.0 is the current stable version, I believe.
I went into >Control panel> web tools> switch php version>select php version> and the highest is php 5.5> update an it doesn’t seem to do anything.
5.5 is better than 5.3, but really… 5.6 or 7.0 is preferable.
It doesn’t seem to do anything. I done a recent back-up so I was thinking of re-installing wordpress again. I also want to wait for my host to get back to me – which I have a feeling won’t be till Monday afternoon.
You need to talk to your host. PHP is “outside” of WordPress. If 5.5 is the best your host offers, you should look for a better host.
This all started when I was trying to install aswats stats – did that affect anything?
I already changed my host and it was a pain in the neck! I don’t really want to go through it all over again.
If I don’t hear anything by tomorrow afternoon then I will start a new wordpress installation.
