Installing my site

    Hi all!

    I’m trying to develop a WordPress-based site for my school newspaper. This is my first time using WordPress and while I’m fine working with a computer, I have minimal coding experience.

    Would anyone be able to walk me through the basics of establishing a website, and possibly suggest a theme (paid or free) that would best suit a newspaper layout?

    I read through the various support pages on WordPress and we will most likely be using Bluehost as a web host. However, past that I’m still a bit confused as to how the entire process of establishing a website goes. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    You can find many great themes here:

    http://wordpress.org/themes/

    It’s really quite impossible for anyone to pick a theme for you – but using the tag filter may help you narrow down the choices.

    The other thought I had after posting the above is that it’s sometimes best to just jump in and start playing around with WP – because once you learn a bit more about how it works and try out a few themes, you’ll probably have a better idea of what you want in a theme (or what you don’t want). It’s quite easy to switch themes – it takes a bit of set up in a new one, but the theme settings/options are saved so if you want to go back to an earlier one, that’s quite easy.

    I think that’s the best approach. We still have yet to establish a domain, but in the meanwhile I’ll read up on installing WordPress and the other “getting started” posts. I think we’ll be using a paid theme though, since that’ll take a lot of hassle out of our hands. Do you happen to have any suggestions as to which one is the best? I know there are plenty of options out there.

    The high school here: http://www.shsmaroon.org/ uses WordPress and the site looks pretty good. The layout was from gabfire, but I was wondering if you knew any other options. The help is greatly appreciated!
