I am trying to wrap my head around header template parts and Header Patterns and how they work to gether.

When you create a custom Header Template part and give it a Name “header4” you will see a Block named “Header4” when you search for headers and you will also see all the Header Patterns.

I am assuming that you can, At this time, select a Header Pattern with out any issues

If I select the “Header4: Block it will be the content and structure of the header Block I created.

If Latter when editing a template and Highlighting the Header Block in my case Labeled “Header4” on the right side of my screen I will see under design a list of the Header Patterns, if I select one of these Patterns The Blocks under “Header4” are replaced by the name of the Pattern Selected with the blocks of that pattern under that name. And any template with “Header4” will be replaced by the content of the Pattern but retaining the name “Header4”

Bottom Line there is no difference between a Template Part Header and a Header Pattern

I have reached a conclusion that a best practice would be to create a custom header Pattern using one of the existing Header Patterns as a template and modifying it to meet my requirements for a Header and/or footer

    Where am I wrong

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • You’re very close, but think about this: A Template Part is something that stays reusable across templates, while a Pattern is more like a starting layout that gets inserted.

When you switch patterns inside your header, are you replacing the Template Part itself… or just the content inside it?
