Hi,
You need either the local databases or an API key. In the last case the ip addresses are looked up on a web API. In the first case you should update your databases monthly.
There is not 1 way to upload the files as many webhosting companies use different systems. But this could work for you:
You have to upload the file(s) GeoIP.dat and GeoIPv6.dat with the cpanel file manager. You have to upload the files to the location that is displayed on your wordpress site. Usually something like:
/somepath/otherpath/htdocs/wp-content/uploads/
Usually your webhosting company also has instructions on how to use the file manager.
Thanks for your time Pascal
Just learning the ropes so I not an expert.
Installed the plugin, the database needs manual install.
Clicked on the link found within the plugin page
Downloaded the file
The File – default Notepad to open.
Open the file in Notepad and saved it.
Went to cpanel and uploaded in the thread stated and ended up with the result … fatal error. Deleted the file and have my website back.
Clearly I AM doing something very wrong. Any ideas?
If not, thanks.

Hi,
You just want to download the file and save it directly from the browser. Do not open it with notepad.
Hello Pascal
What a Journey. Not your fault, just I am new to this game. Had work through how to unzip a GZ file.etc, go to the backend where I have never gone before.
It Works. …..thank you so much.
Sorry if I sound thick…..But it’s all new to me.
Thank you

Hi Shaun,
Great that it worked!
Every month the database gets updated so if you can you should update it once a month.
