If I select the option to lazy-load gravatars, my own gravatar on the WordPress toolbar and on my profile link disappears.

I am afraid that not all themes play well with Lazy Loading techniques in general. It seems your particular one has issue with it. I would love to see an URL where the problem occurs so we can troubleshoot it better.

Sorry I didn’t make it clear, this is in the WordPress dashboard, not Gravatars on posts. This is on the right hand side of the WordPress toolbar, across the top of the dashboard. It says ‘Howdy, skirridsystems’ and then an empty box. If I hover I get the drop-down with Edit my profile, Logout, etc, but again no Gravatar. If I disable lazy load of gravatars then the images are back again.

Same problem with me. In fact, My WP-Admin panel was quite slow because of this. Once i disabled Lazy Load for Gravatars, not only WP-Admin became fast, images are also showing in toolbar.

We will completely exclude the Lazy Load scripts from the backend in 5.0.10 which will solve the issue.
