Google Search Console cannot retrieve sitemap

    In Google Search Console, the message “Unable to retrieve” appears. I have checked that the sitemap is in the right place and that is the case. In the validator I get the message “Incorrect http header content-type:” “(expected:” application / xml “)”.

    How do I find out what exactly is going wrong?

    In Google Search Console verschijnt de melding ‘Kan niet ophalen’. Ik heb gecontroleerd of de sitemap op de juiste plek staat en dat is het geval. In de validator krijg ik de melding ‘Incorrect http header content-type: “” (expected: “application/xml”)’.

    Hoe kom ik erachter wat er precies fout gaat?

    Thanks for reaching out again!

    We were unable to access your site or the sitemap. Are you able to load either of them from your end? We get ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT when trying to access both.

    Hello Tom,

    The sitemap loads fine now. The error, Incorrect HTTP header content-type: text/html is often caused when the server is caching the sitemaps and serves it as an HTML file instead of the XML content type. You may consider clearing the cache and exclude the sitemaps from being cached permanently by following the steps in this guide: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-cache/

    As far as I can tell, I’m not using any caching plugins. I will look into this. Thx

    I think there were some server settings that were not correct. Looks like its working properly now. Thx
