Hi Ian, not a stupid question at all, it’s an important one to be sure about.
Yes, but only for scripts CookieYes can recognise. With the plugin on its own (not connected to the CookieYes web app), a script is blocked when one of its cookies is listed in the Analytics category with a “Script URL Pattern” (Cookie Manager > Add Cookie). Cookies in the Necessary category are never blocked. If your site is connected to the CookieYes web app, the site scan adds these patterns for known services like Google Analytics automatically.
Another way is to mark the Google Analytics script tag yourself with data-cookieyes=”cookieyes-analytics”.
Also check the consent type: with the “Info” type nothing is blocked.
To test it: open your site in a private window, reject analytics cookies, reload the page, then look in your browser’s developer tools (Application > Cookies). No _ga cookie should appear.

How is Google Analytics added on your site (Site Kit, Google Tag Manager, or code in the theme), and is the plugin connected to the CookieYes web app?
Thanks for your prompt response.
I am using SiteKit and have configured no custom scripts. Our site is connected to the Web App, but I am being prompted to choose a plan and when I click to select a plan I just get a blank page.
Not sure what I am doing wrong.
Ian
I’ve just forced a refresh and got the list of plans, but the free plan is greyed out. I assume that means we are already on that plan, so why am I being prompted to choose one?
Thanks
Ian
Hi Ian, thanks. Site Kit loads Google Analytics from googletagmanager.com, and since your site is connected to the web app, the cookie scan should list Google Analytics under Analytics and block it until the visitor accepts. The quick test from my last reply (private window, reject analytics, check that no _ga cookie appears) will confirm it.
About the plan: I cannot see your account, but a greyed out Free plan most likely means you are already on it, so you do not need to pick anything there.
It is worth checking the pageview usage on your CookieYes dashboard, though. The Free plan has a monthly pageview limit (5,000 for sites added since July 2025), and once it is reached the cookie banner stops showing until the monthly reset or an upgrade. While the banner is off, no consent is collected. More here: https://www.cookieyes.com/documentation/pageviews-info/
For anything about your plan or account, CookieYes support can help directly from the web app, because they can see your account.
Hi Ian,
Thanks for the update. With Site Kit and the web app connected, Google Analytics should be picked up by the scan and blocked until a visitor accepts analytics cookies. The private-window test mentioned earlier will confirm it.
On the plan prompt, a greyed-out Free plan usually means you’re already on it, so you shouldn’t need to choose anything. Could you share a screenshot of that page? That will help us check further. If you’d rather not post it publicly, you can send it through our support team at https://www.cookieyes.com/support/ with your site URL.
