Google Adsense not showing

Hi! I just set up Adsense through Advanced Ads on my WordPress (Bluehost) website. I’m fairly naive about what programs talk to which so have been relying heavily on blogs to walk me through this. I think I have everything created correctly and was able to create an ‘ad unit’ space on each of my pages. When doing this under ‘dummy’, an ad populated as it should, but when linked to Adsense, it just stays as a blank space. My whole website has the same blank placeholder on every page, as this was the location I chose. Am I not linking correctly or is there more to do on the google side to populate an ad?
