• As the title shows, I think this needs to be installed in all WordPress sites because contributing to the Google news feed is important. I decided to rate this with 5 stars because of the essential functionality, but I wish the directions were more clear for the “Front page settings”. I set both the Front Page and the Posts Page category to the “Home” setting and my landing page became the feed…. and then I panicked. If there is a short statement saying what these categories are and what not to do, this plugin would be really sweet.

  • Hi DKlahre, thanks for the high rating 🙂

Are you talking about the WordPress “Front page displays” options at the top on Settings > Reading? These are not part of my plugin.

Normally, when you set both “Front page” and “Posts page” to the same page, there should be an error message saying “Warning: these pages should not be the same!” given by WordPress after saving. But even then, I never seen the front page change into a feed. Is it a normal RSS feed or a XML Sitemap feed that you got to see?

I remember seeing that error message after I saved the changes. What would have helped if the error message was always there so people don’t do it. I saw individual pages on the landing page, each page in a small rectangular area on top of one another. What was scary is that when I deactivated the plugin, the change stuck. When I activated it again, it took some experimenting to undo the change. But all that doesn’t matter now.

when I deactivated the plugin, the change stuck.

That’s because the issue has as far as I know nothing to do with the XML Sitemap plugin. It’s a WordPress thing… I aggree the message is not very clear but that’s maybe because the effect you saw is not always happening. At least I never saw it before so if your case IS related to my plugin, then I’d like to know more about it 🙂
