Getting rid of post panel?

I am trying to just have a website and not a blog. I am new to all of this so excuse my lack of knowledge. As I work on my web pages there is always a section on the page for posts. I want to delete that but cannot figure out how to make it go away. Can anyone help with that? Thanks
