Getting 404 errors and misc with XML sitemaps WP multisite | WordPress.org

Hey all,

This is subsite on a WordPress multisite network FYI. We either get a 404 or something like the attached.

I other subsite worked fine in the past too, but I notice some of the ones that worked in the past are not now either (similar to the above and attached).

I have gone through: http://kb.yoast.com/article/123-xml-sitemap-errors and http://kb.yoast.com/article/16-my-sitemap-is-giving-a-404-error-what-should-i-do to try to fix it on the subsites.

Also, here is a reference ticket with wpmudev as well:

The ticket has to do with this subsite: http://bit.ly/1WWZKfX in particular (but as mentioned I checked other subsites and notice similar now even though they worked fine in the past).

Please let me know your thoughts etc.

I don’t think it is robot.txt but I know Google webmaster tools can not see the sitemaps on all subsite too.

Typically the “XML declaration allowed only at the start of the document” error is caused by white space preceding the <?xml tag.

Sometimes strange behavior, like outputting white space, may be caused by a plugin or theme conflict. If you are unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we wrote a small guide that will walk you through the steps. You can find it here: How To Check For Plugin Conflicts

@askkim Please refer to the two screenshots in the original post (the urls are seen there). It applies to all subsites, though, on the WP multisite network too FYI.

This just worked for me (but what do you think about Yoast including a enable or disable feature to do effectively the same thing for folks having similar future problems)?

Also, should this be considered a long term fix? I don’t see a problem with it but just wanted your feedback on it . . . smile?

Here is the fix:

Hey there,

I would 95% guarantee this will work for you. Although, I would like to here from Yoast to see if they could sometime rollout a fix on there end that folks could enable or disable as needed perhaps to fix this for everyone. It looks like a lot of people have it. It may have been a WP core update, some plugin, etc. All I know is it worked on over 10 WP sites I have (all different themes and plugins just now):

Afterwards, go wp-admin/options-permalink.php and resave your permalinks.

Also, you may have to go to your Yoast XML sitemaps too and unchecked the XML sitemaps tick box>save>and then recheck it>save.
