Hello, I have been using an older CAS auth plugin for multisite that has not seen development for several years and has been dropped from the WordPress plugins directory. This old plugin (Stephen Schwink’s CAS Authentication 2.4) continues to work correctly, but I have been trying to use Authorizer on a new server that is under development; old plugin still works on new environment, permits login and creates a Subscriber account. I am using identical CAS server settings for the old plugin and for Authorizer. The CAS server is configured correctly to accept service from the host.

If I activate Authorizer, and attempt to log in, I get the generic CAS PHP library error, a plain white page with Error: Internal script failure. Blog dashboards show the error: Can’t reach CAS server. Please provide accurate CAS settings if you intend to use it.

Is your CAS server running on over http (instead of https) on a nonstandard port (something other than 80 or 8080)? If so, that might trip up the plugin when it tries to verify the CAS server is reachable.

Alternatively, if your CAS server is running over https, does it have a valid SSL certificate?

Finally, you may be missing some of the prerequisites for phpCAS, which this plugin relies on. Check them here:

You should also check your server error logs for a more detailed error message (it’s only reporting the generic “internal error” message to the client).

The problem is that the URL it’s checking for accessibility may not be valid, and in my case, isn’t. That is, in my environment, https://cas-host/cas/context returns a 404, but https://cas-host/cas/context/login returns a 200.

The phpCAS client silently tacks ‘login’ (or ‘logout’) onto the “server base url” before redirecting the user to CAS.

Thanks for catching that! I updated the CAS server availability check to point to the login endpoint.
