General Plugin Question – Duplicate Same Plugin To Upload?

    I’m wondering if it is possible to make a few edits to a plugin’s file(s) so I could re-upload it under a different name but it have the same functionality as the original plugin? (So WP basically views it as a completely different plugin)

    What I have is a widget for the sidebar and if I name it something else I can change the settings in plugin_original versus plugin_new.

    Anyone know if this is difficult or just a matter of a few edits in some files within the plugin?
