Gallery plugin that will work

I’ve been slaving over trying to get something to work for a couple weeks and am beyond frustrated, so now I’ll turn to the WordPress community. My client wants a portfolio page that displays their work with several different customers; essentially this page would have several thumbnails, and each when clicked would open up its own lightbox with about 6 pictures as well as some overarching project details. What would be the best way to do this?

The closest I’ve got is using foogallery with its albums extension, but it of course is malfunctioning due to the use of other plugins and/or my theme. I can’t figure out how to maintain several galleries on a single page without it malfunctioning or all of the pictures from all of the galleries showing up on any of the lightboxes. Can anyone help?
