    Watu does not define any width. If you check your page source you will see that even the h1 heading which does not come from Watu is in the 50% wide area.

    You just need to check your theme CSS. Probably some of the following classes defines the width:

    <article id="post-230" class="post-230 page type-page status-publish hentry">

    thanks for the answer, but i realize that the open essay box is quite small, it is only about 307px x 125px, is it possible that i can make it larger?

    Yes, you can change it by CSS. Watu does not define any styles itself, it just follows the definitions of your theme.
