• I’m working with the new Yahoo interface without a local install.
Have downloaded several appealing themes. The majority FTP and load just fine. However, several themes have transferred only to be put in the “broken” with the message “missing style sheet”.
What’s going on here? There must be a simple answer.
    Thank you

  • Maybe those are “styles” for WP 1.2.x?
Where did you download them from?

    I believe it was alexking.org.

That site has two (2) sections: Styles and Themes.
As I said above, styles were for pre-1.5 versions. Since WP 1.5 WP works with themes.
(It is possible to convert a 1.2 style into a theme, it just takes work. If interested take a look at this: http://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrade_1.2_to_1.5 )

Thank you. I’m a long time Type Pad user attempting to make the leap. There’s a lot to learn and I appreciate the fast response.

Back again. I went back to check. The “themes” that I FTP’d were themes not styles. Comparing the contents of theme folders of themes that load and those that don’t, I couldn’t recognize a significant difference. Any other ideas?

Make sure there’s not a “secondary” containing folder between the theme files and the /themes/ folder. Sometimes there’s too many folders there….

Path needs to look like /wp-content/themes/theme-name/ and within the theme-name folder a graphics folder, a bunch of .php files, and style.css.
