FTP: many old backups not deleted

    I’m using version 1.14.2 with FTP upload and “Delete local backup” enabled in the expert settings. It works quite well, but sometimes the backup file remains in the folder. This led to a reminder from my hosting that I’m not allowed to keep this kind of files. I think I noticed that according to the logs, the ZIPs remained there after processing with errors.

    Since the backups usually run without problems, wouldn’t it make sense to delete old local temporary files? Is it a malfunction, or did I miss an option?

    Hi,

    To help us work out the cause of your problem, can you please send us a copy of the backup log? This log can be found in the Existing Backups tab of the UpdraftPlus dashboard.

    If you cannot access the UpdraftPlus dashboard, then you can find the log file in the ‘wp-content/updraft’ directory via FTP or your hosts’ file manager.

    Hi,

    I’m afraid that the contents of the log will be too long to post here directly.

    However, you can upload the log to an online service such as Pastebin or Dropbox, and post the link here.

    Hi Chris,

    The log indicates that that file was not successfully sent to the FTP server. The FTP server keeps returning the error “Append/Restart not permitted, try again”. Are you using Filezilla Server? You need to tweak the settings for it so that it permits resumptions of partially-uploaded data.

    It’s the ftp of shared hosting, so I won’t be able to change the settings there.

    I’ll look around for other possibilities. But in general it would be good if your plugin could (optionally) delete files left behind after failed uploads, otherwise running out of disk space might block the entire site.
