Hi @alanfallow, you are not using Suffusion theme. This is a Suffusion theme forum. You are currently using Canvas which belongs to woothemes.
You will have to ask their developers for help. Can you mark this support thread as resolved since it is not a Suffusion question.

I just tried a text post and it wont show on the front slider either.
What plugin are you using for the slideshow?
Its just the post slider built into the theme.
Ok, I found this youtube video that illustrates one of the best methods to set it up. Have a look and let me know what you think.
