from.com to.org

  • A year ago, I created my blog through Windows Live Writer, apparently falling under wordpress.com. This sort of went automatically, and I later even ‘bought’ a name, together with some other options. This supscription will expire in a months’ time. I learned too late that there is a difference between .com and .org.

I have browsed through the forum to find out how I can switch my wordpress.com blog to a wordpress.org one. I don’t understand all the instructions in previous forum entries on this topic. Isn’t there a step by step visual manual available somewhere?

But maybe it is easier to build a new site and then copy-paste from my old site.

Have you reviewed Moving to wordpress.org?

    Thank you Esmi,

I had not come accross this page, which is exactly what I was looking for.

I understand that I first have to find a good host. I tried to get some answers from my internet provider (UPC in the Netherlands). They can host (it is in my package, anyway), but could not give me any specific information or experience with wordpress. As this sounded too vague, I decided to look for another host. In a recent book on wordpress (by Rogier Mostert) they suggest using FileZilla. Is this indeed a trustworthy host?

FileZilla is FTP software – not a hosting company. Although we cannot endorse them, there are some hosts listed here. Also searching the forums using the keywords “host” or “hosting” may also provide you with some suggestions.
