• I needed to password protect a custom template, the native wordpress functionality doesn’t do this automatically (you need to wrap the template in a conditional AND generate the form yourself, I have now found out!) so I tried this plugin. Unfortunately I had the same issue here so while I am not using it, support were great in guiding to me to the solution.

  • Hi @pwsean

    Thanks for your feedback.

We believe there is a misunderstanding here. Our free version does support protecting (unlimited) WordPress pages and posts as per our attached screenshot:

Thousands of users are using the Free version of our plugin on their websites.

Can you give us a chance to help you, please @pwsean?

@ppwp thanks for your quick response – if I’ve been hasty then I will of course revise my feedback.

Wordpress offers (supposedly) password protection for single pages out of the box, but it looks like it only works on the_content() and not on custom templates. It is not working as expected, which is why I searched for a plugin.

Your plugin appears to use the same native WP function, as it pulled in the password I had previously saved. With role set to global, the page is still visible to everyone without being prompted for a password.

Can you confirm if this is something to do with the_content() vs custom templates?

@pwsean, thank for listening to us.

Yes, you’re absolutely right on the_content() vs custom templates. WordPress and our plugin only work on the_content() by default.

The good news is our plugin, even the Free version, allows you to password protect WordPress custom page templates and custom fields as well.

You will need to modify your page template slightly as per our tutorial.

Feel free to let us know if it’s too technical for you. We’ll be more than happy to help with the custom modification.

In that case, I was hasty. It would be nice to have it out of the box but I realise writing to page templates is not feasible. I can amend the template and will adjust my review accordingly.

You’re right again, @pwsean. It’s not feasible to password protect your custom page template without touching the codes.

By the way, it’s almost 11 pm here in our office. If it still doesn’t work out, can you please drop us a support email to hello(@)preventdirectaccess.com?

We will get back to you early tomorrow morning.

Thanks again for your understanding, @pwsean.

    Hello @pwsean,

How is it going on your side? Do you need any help from us?

    Hello @pwsean,

This is our last and final request. Hope it doesn’t sound annoying to you.

Would you be kind and caring enough to check and revise your review as promised, please @pwsean?

It will be unfair and extremely demoralizing for us, a new and fast-growing plugin, to get a 1-star review from a hasty decision as what you’ve admitted.

    Hope you’ll consider our request.

Anyway, happy Friday and the upcoming weekend πŸ™‚
