• I have a website that occassionaly, crashes when I try new widgets, themes, etc. My host will let me have other domains without charge and I would like to get a free or really cheap domain to work with and learn from before I try them on my site. A practice site if you will! any suggestions?

  • You don’t even need a separate domain.

Just create a folder/directory in the root of your server, name it ‘test’ or whatever you want, upload the WP files into this directory, create a new database for it then install WP normally and test in there.

    http://yoursite.com/test/

Though, another option is to do all this locally by installing a web server on your comp like WAMP, MAMP, or LAMP depending on your OS. 🙂

The domain name is not the reason why your website “crashes”, it’s your webhost service where the domain name is parked. And that’s happening when you add new widgets or theme, imagine when your online visitor count reaches the high mark! No matter how many domain names you have, if your webhosting is poor, it’s going “crash”. Where are you hosted now?
