Forum Plugin

  • Hey, Before I went ahead, and tried to make it, I was wondering if there was a forum-type plugin, so you could integrate an area into your wordpress that would allow a forum that ran off of the WP user table. If not, I was wondering what you guys would think would be the most and least important features to include. For the most part, it just has to be run like a normal forum, and run off of the WP user table. I would want it to allow any user to start a thread, and allow users to edit their posts. I was trying to think of a way to integrate bbPress, but maybe thats too early.

  • http://bbpress.org/ is probably the place to start.

I’ve already looked at it and stuff… BUT, its still too early, in alpha… I wanted to know if there was a plugin that you could run a forum/message board right through WordPress…

yea i am looking for the same thing right now and bbpress is still alpha and doesnt have that many features

I would like to know if users registered for the blog with level 9 be able to post on the forum with their registered nicknames? That would be super cool. If thats the case I will be installing it right now 🙂

    I meant level 0 🙂

@feverinlove, it’s not that simple. Out of the box bbpress and WP do not share the same database. See: http://bbpress.org/blog/2004/12/lean-and-mean/

You can possibly check this : http://forums.punbb.org/viewtopic.php?id=8373

I don’t get this working, but anyway, there is plenty of php 4 user out there 🙂

I know this topic is old, but I couldn’t find a forum plugin a few days ago still. I needed one so I decided to write one. It’s simple but works. I will be adding features if requested. go here: http://www.xdweb.net/ to get it. and go here: http://www.playbomb.com/ to see one working.
    few facts about it:
    name: xdforum
    forum groups: yes
    multiple forums: yes
    use wordpress user table: yes
    modify any wordpress files: no
    modify any wordpress tables: no
    upload-and-go plugin: yes

couldnt quite follow the instructions for configuring xdforum.php.

basically, you upload the plugin, you activate it, then you go to the manage page for it and set the settings. once you do that all you have to do is create the forum groups and forums.

Does anyone know what empowers WordPress Support forum and tagging functions?

Xavic, in forum admin I’m getting:

WordPress database error: [You have an error in your SQL syntax near ‘ENGINE=MyISAM’ at line 13]
    CREATE TABLE wp_xdforum_forums ( xf_id int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment, xf_xg_id int(11) NOT NULL default ‘0’, xf_position int(11) NOT NULL default ‘0’, xf_name varchar(150) NOT NULL default ”, xf_description varchar(255) NOT NULL default ”, xf_status enum(‘active’,’inactive’,’readonly’) NOT NULL default ‘active’, xf_threads int(11) NOT NULL default ‘0’, xf_posts int(11) NOT NULL default ‘0’, xf_views int(11) NOT NULL default ‘0’, PRIMARY KEY (xf_id), KEY xf_id (xf_id) ) ENGINE=MyISAM

Call me an idiot, but I noticed that there is supposedly avatar support. I just can find where and how to change them. Any ideas?

Other than that…it is a great plug-in…had no problems getting it working. Here is a link to my site: http://www.independentmovement.us

Avatars will be controlled through the profile page, but I haven’t finished that yet, sorry. And opaz, I cleaned up the sql create statements a bit and added some features since you posted that. Please get the latest and overwrite your current copy: http://www.xdweb.net/files/xdforum.zip

I am going to try the new download. So far I have gotten here : http://www.swatchnot.hender-son-s.com/blog/?a=xdforum

Warning: copy(/hsphere/local/home/dh2913/swatchnot.hender-son-s.com/blog/wp-content/themes/darcikles/xdforumtemplate.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /hsphere/local/home/dh2913/swatchnot.hender-son-s.com/blog/wp-content/plugins/xdforum/xdforum.php on line 1151

SO CLOSE…lol It opened my blog, just something is missing I guess. ANd for some reason I noted earlier on your other web site it is adding an extra “”/blog”” in the string when I go to validate my default settings and got to a different page in the management section.
