Support » Fixing WordPress » Footer links not working

  • I have a link to my terms and conditions in my footer which takes you to a pdf. This opens fine on some pages then on others it just opens a ‘this is embarrasing’ page. Does anyone know how why this is happening and how it can be modified?

    Post a link to the page where you have the problem.

    http://www.keighleylabs.co.uk/lab-services-html/ndt-processes/

    If you follow that link then click on the terms and conditions in the footer you will get an idea of the issue. The link on the parent pages seems to be working fine.

    This is what you have there – not linked to any URL.
    <p>Website: Terms & Conditions | Privacy Policy</p>
    Provide the links so that the links would work.

    Sorry I should of made it more clear. I mean the link above it, so where it says Trading: terms and conditions. It’s a new site so I haven’t got round to adding the links to the other part yet.

    Trading:
    <a target="_blank" title="Keighley Laboratories, terms of trade" href="../wp-content/uploads/2013/10/KLL-Terms-and-Conditions-for-Supply-of-Services.pdf">
    <font color="#1b8be0">Terms & Conditions</font>
    </a>

    Try using the complete link instead of
    ../wp-content/uploads/2013/10/KLL-Terms-and-Conditions-for-Supply-of-Services.pdf

    I tried that Krishna and doesn’t seem to make any difference as it looks like we are already using the complete link, thank you for your help though.

    Does anyone else have a way of fixing this or is there a way of contacting wordpress directly?

    WordPress is free software and this free, volunteer-staffed forum is the only support resource available via wordpress.org. If you cannot manage this yourself, you may want to consider hiring someone

    Oh ok thank you. I would much rather try fix the issue via the forum as it seems abit of a waste hiring someone to change one thing that is probably quite simple!

    That does not appear to be a valid link – if you put just the link in a browser window, it’s not found. Also, PDF behavior is largely determined by browsers – so that may be a problem as well.

    http://www.keighleylabs.co.uk

    That is the link to my website. The pdf works fine on the parent pages just not on the sub pages so i don’t think it is a browser issue. Plus I have tried this in 3 different browsers.

    The links are not the same:

    On the second (non-working one) you don’t have an absolute file path (as Krisha suggested above) – the source shows this:

    <a target="_blank" title="Keighley Laboratories, terms of trade" href="../wp-content/uploads/2013/10/KLL-Terms-and-Conditions-for-Supply-of-Services.pdf">

    So how would I go about resolving this? (sorry if you are actually already telling me that in your answers, I’m not actually a web designer I work in marketing and have sort of been left to look after the site with no wordpress experiance)
