    Regarding the issue where folders appear empty while using the Automatic connection option, this typically happens due to strict API access restrictions and security guidelines set by Google and WordPress regarding broad permissions. Specifically, this occurs because Automatic Mode is designed around Google’s privacy-focused and narrower drive.file permission. Unlike unrestricted access scopes, this permission only grants access to files created by the app or explicitly made available through supported selection flows, which prevents an application from viewing every pre-existing file or folder contents added directly inside Google Drive. Because of this, a folder selected in Automatic Mode can appear empty or may not show every file that you can see when you open Google Drive directly.

    This is not a bug. Your files are completely safe, have not been deleted, and remain in your Google Drive, as they simply fall outside the scope of the limited drive.file access model.

    In previous versions, the automatic mode was much more automated, but to ensure high security and full compliance with both WordPress and Google security protocols, we had to deprecate or limit some of those automated features that could pose potential security risks to your site.

    For the safest and most reliable experience right now, we highly recommend switching to the Manual Mode. Our UI also suggests manual connection as the preferred method for this reason. If you need full browsing access to your existing library and broader management capabilities, Manual Mode is the ideal choice.
