• My first WordPress websites were hosted by WordPress.com, but I am now developing on Cloudway servers because the price structure at WordPress.com would make what I am trying to do now unaffordable.

WordPress.com tweaked the TinyMCE editor toolbar so that it floats and is always at the top of the page. Now I must highlight text, and then scroll up to the top of the page (some of which are VERY, VERY long) to be able to see the TinyMCE editor toolbar, select bold, italics, underline, or whatever, then scroll back down to see the modified text. And of course if the slightest mistake is made, repeat the process ad infinitum.

THIS MAKES THE ENTIRE WORDPRESS PLATFORM UNUSABLE.

Is this WordPress.com punishment for not hosting with them? Is there no solution to this problem? Why cannot I find even a discussion of this nightmarish problem? All I can find is this “WordPress Plugin: Float TinyMCE Toolbar” plugin article at https://justinview.com.au/wordpress-plugin-float-tinymce-toolbar/ but the website owner has not responded.

I am NOT using the new block editor. I am using the Classic Editor, Classic Editor Addon, and TinyMCE Advanced plugins.

Please God tell me it isn’t so. There must be a solution to this problem. I am just dumbfounded that I cannot even find even a discussion of the problem after searching for over a day.

  • I just tried the Classic Editor (in 4.9.10) on a long page, without Classic Editor Addon or TinyMCE Advanced, and the toolbar does stay in place while the text is scrolled.

Can you isolate whether it’s the WP core or a plugin that is changing this for you?

OH THANK YOU FOR ANSWERING. I’m willing to bet you are using WordPress.com to host you webstie.

No, it’s self-hosted. That particular one is running 4.9.10.

If you can try it without your editor add-on plugins activated, you could eliminate them as cause.

Alas, now I know why I could not find a discussion of this. You just absolutely made my day. I was editing in the MainWP Boilerplate Extension. The regular Classic Editor is floating the toolbar as normal. OMG am I relieved. Thank you Joy. I may not have noticed this without your help. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
