It is still a mystery where do you upload the WP files…

Well I am back with know good news. All 1and1 sent me was a link to the install instructions for 1and1.com which is exactly the same as WP. I sent them a return email blasting them and telling them that I want help not FAQ’s. I’ve been looking at WP’s troubleshooting and I have checked everything with the wp-config and everything is right with that. I have gone as far as changing the password with in MySQL and changing it in the wp-config. changed the wordpress folder to christysblog, which is the description in the MySQL. I am starting to stress alittle. Next step is the “install4free”. Any good feedback on this option would be appreciated.

Hi I am attempting my first blog and would like some help please. I have Fantastico but am unsure about the terminology used. I am not without inelligence only experience of this practice. This is the command step that I am unsure of the actual meaning of; Unzip the package in an empty directory
Open up wp-config-sample.php with a text editor like WordPad or similar and fill in your database connection details
Save the file as wp-config.php

OK, let me ask this question, does wordpress get uploaded into the MySQL database or does it get uploaded to the file on the server that I put my web page files??
Cockney,
Fantastico is on your server.
The instructions talk about what to do on your own computer!
Big scripts usually come in a compressed format (.zip) and you need a tool to decompress=unzip.
That’s a not a WP-specific thing – it is a standard procedure when downloading software/script.
And start your own topic next time!
Tmark: you can NOT upload any file into the MySQL database, sorry.
You upload the WP files and directories in the root folder – if you wish: where you put any other “web file”.

So that much I have right but it still doesn’t want to work.
I’ve been also reading the codex files for login trouble and have tried a couple of the suggestions but still no deal.
I’ll keep trying.
Now you made me curious… can’t imagine why it doesn’t work.
If you want contact me by clicking on my name here and I’ll try to take a look at it.
I’m brand new and have never done this before and am completely stuck! I’m trying to download a theme for my blog page. At this point I don’t even care which one it is, I just want SOMEthing other than the blue blog screen that pops up with WordPress blogs. However, each time I click to download theme I can see the zip file on my desktop but when I try to open it its most data (script)files, I guess. Nothing that just lets me open and apply it to my blogsite.
Anybody know how should I open this to make it work?
You unzip it and upload it to your themes folder… and you may have gotten a faster response by posting a NEW thread instead of posting your question in an 11 month old completely unrelated topic.
Poe, THANK YOU for your response..
Two questions: First, how do I start a new thread? I just clicked on the first link that popped up after I entered my question in the search box.
Next, how do I load the unzipped file to my “theme folder”? I don’t believe I’ve seen a theme folder in anything that I’ve opened or edited. I saved the file to my desktop and when I open the unzipped file it contains 7 or 8 “components” of the compressed file but nothing that I can just open and apply to my blog page…sorry to be dense, I’m just soooo brand new to all this…
You would upload (using FTP or a browser or however you upload your files) the unzipped theme folder to wp-content/themes in your blog directory.
To start a new thread, click “new” on the main topic page at the top.
hi this is the error I GET, i have checked several time the username/password of the database:
Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.
Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?
