• I am very new to working with Masteriyo and wanted to make sure I had covered my bases before going fwd. I am preparing to do a large bulk import of an entire LMS structure (including multiple courses, lessons, and quizzes) into Masteriyo using a custom-generated JSON file. Before I hit upload, I want to double-check my workflow with you to ensure there is absolutely zero risk of throwing errors or impacting my web server and the other independent websites hosting on it.Here are the exact steps I have taken so far:1. Created a reference lesson and quiz directly inside Masteriyo.2. Exported that mockup as a Masteriyo .json template file.3. Used an external mapping tool to structure my full bulk data to match your exact export schema.4. Validated the final .json file through JSONLint to guarantee there are no syntax, structural, or trailing punctuation errors.Could you please confirm the following for me?• Server Isolation: Can you reassure me that Masteriyo’s import handler processes this strictly within the active WordPress database tables, meaning it has zero chance of affecting other websites or file directories sharing my server?• Error Handling: If there happens to be a logical mismatch in a data field (such as a quiz key), will Masteriyo simply fail the import safely or throw a soft WordPress error, rather than causing a critical server-level crash?• File Processing: Does my workflow of matching your exact native export structure sound correct and safe to proceed with?Thank you for your time and for confirming these technical boundaries for me!

    Hi @cjs2933,

Thanks for checking before you run it. Your approach is right: exporting a sample from Masteriyo and following that structure is the best way to build an import file.

    To answer your questions:

    1. Is it isolated? Yes. The import goes through standard WordPress functions and only writes to the database of the site you run it on. Other sites on the same server aren’t touched. On a multisite network, it only affects the subsite you’re logged into.

    2. What happens with bad data? It won’t cause server-level problems. But please know how it behaves:

    • It checks the file type, not every field inside it. A record that can’t be created, like one with an unknown post type, is skipped and the rest keep importing.
    • There’s no automatic rollback, so a file with mistakes can leave a partial import behind.
    • Each import creates new courses, lessons and quizzes. Importing the same file twice gives you duplicates.
    • Imports with more than ten courses run in the background, so give it a few minutes before you check.

    3. Recommended steps:

    1. Take a full database backup first. Your host’s backup tool or a plugin like UpdraftPlus is fine.
    2. Do a test run with one or two courses, ideally on a staging copy of your site.
    3. Open those test courses and check the lessons, the quizzes, and the questions and answers.
    4. If everything looks right, import the full file. If something’s wrong, restore the backup and fix the file before trying again.

One tip: the IDs in your file only need to be consistent within the file. Masteriyo assigns new IDs on import and remaps the links between courses, sections, lessons and quizzes. Just make sure every parent ID you reference is also in the file.

If anything doesn’t come through correctly after the test run, reply here with what you see and we’ll help.
