• Hi all,

I created a website for my friend’s shop:

    http://www.purestvapours.co.uk

Could you take a look and let me know what you think please. The site has been up and running for a year. Just after launch he was getting around 10-20 orders a month.

This has dropped down to less than 5 on average. I have put SEO tools on the site and registered it with Google Webmaster tools and uploaded a sitemap etc however I can’t get it even in the top 20 for keywords such as e-cigarette and e-liquid.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

A few things to check out.

Most of the competition has an over 18 pop-up when you hit their site. is that a legal requirement for this type of site??

some of the images are blurred. some images are missing altogether.

No much content above the fold. You can only really see the slider on the primary page. Try getting rid of this feature and adding some relevant content instead. Sliders look cool but do nothing for ranking – they just take up space.

What are you using for SEO – you mentioned SEO tools…

you are trying to rank for keywords like e-cigarette and e-liquid. these are very competitive searches in the UK.

E-cigarette gets 74,000 UK based searches a month and looking at the top 10 sites you have a bit of work to do.

    – Number of links (only internal links are pointing to this site. Try to get some legitimate links from external sources.) top of the serps – excluding wikipedia has over 5000 links. – Don’t try anything dodgy with link building as you will get slapped and then its game over.

Use more longtail keywords in your copy.

Create a new page and focus on the following keyword – electronic cigarette starter kit
Don’t over optimise the page and make sure it has over 800 words of relevant content and a few images.

Plenty of other things you could do but this should be enough to get you moving.

    Hi asteadman,

Unfortunately, there’s a database error. I hope it can be fixed soon.
