I’m sorry, I don’t understand your description of the problem. Can you post a screenshot so I can see exactly what you mean?
Sure, actually since I posted this a few days ago, I changed in FF PC the plugin to view Acrobat in FF, and that resolved the problem in FF PC, On the Mac when I click an absolute url link in the pdf the linked whole page comes into the viewer, instead of opening the page itself
original page is page a12-1, the links in that pdf goto page a12-2
see a12-1 shows the original
and result a12-2
Hope this makes it a bit more clear
What is the URL for the link in the PDF that you clicked on?
Is this site live so I can experiment with it myself?
Yes site is live, just a test site for now (the posts below are test links not part of the menus now)
Firefox PC, v27.0.1, I changed the application to “Use Adobe Acrobat (in FF), Mac v27.0.1 “view in FF” shows per screen captures already sent. BTW, before changing on the FF PC version the equations (created in Word as were the pdfs) did not display correctly, but do display correctly on the MAC.
link to post a-12-1 is
http://atgdesign.com/physics/a12-1/
in the post itself is pdf:
http://atgdesign.com/physics/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/A12_1-v05-Invariance-of-operator-21Nov2013.pdf
both visible link tests go to
http://atgdesign.com/physics/a12-2/
in the post itself is pdf:
http://atgdesign.com/physics/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/A12_2-v07-Group-rep-theory-21Nov2013.pdf
with those links calling
http://atgdesign.com/physics/a12-1/
I can email you login info if you need it and tell me how to email you
It would be really nice if pdfs in an embedded post could work in ios, IPAD, etc also, but I understand that is another can of worms relating to how those devices handle pdfs in browsers (is that true?)
Thanks in advance,
James
Okay, I see what you mean! It opens the link you click *inside the embed frame*.
Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s anything I can do to fix this in the WordPress plugin, it looks like a problem with the PDF plugin and/or Firefox.
I’ve opened a bug for Firefox – https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=976541
Many Thanks,
I was also trying in Acrobat to open a new window or tab with the link. I didn’t get that to work, I don’t like that idea anyway, too many new tabs or windows when reading the chapters as there are many. Hopefully mozilla will take notice.
I was also considering a way to detect the browser and open the pdf directly, for FF Mac and also ios, but would probably try to do so in an html page rather than wordpress, although there may be a plugin for that, but even in html this is starting to go beyond my skill set.
One problem is the client insists on pdfs, as he is not web literate, basically only ms word literate and he needs to keep his formatting as it is.
Thanks again
best,
James
