Filmstrip type gallery needed

I am in desperate need of a filmstrip gallery very much like the one on the NextGen PRO page here

I downloaded this and tried to use it but after talking to them about the issues if not having much control over customization and a bug in this particular gallery style, I am not able to achieve what I am looking for. I need a gallery where the images will fit from side to side in the dimensions of the gallery. It will crop images that to a specific ratio too. the only exception are images that are in portrait orientation but those will need to be the same height as the landscape oriented ones.

I need to be able to style the thumbnail area different than the main image area. In essence, I need to be able to make it look like this:http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18576442/clarify/2014-02-20-12h45m/index.html

I have been looking for two days now and tried several but cant seem to get there. I would have thought this would have been a piece of cake.
