File Gallery v1.7 Final – Suggestions

Apart of ironing-out the bugs, here are a few usability suggestions that think would improve FG to make it even smoother and greater.

Detach and Delete. The logic behind the current implementation is IMHO a source of too much confusion. Example:

I have a post 1 with a new freshy attachment 1.
I have a post 2 with attachment 1 (same as post 1)

Scenario1: I delete attachment 1 from post 2. Attachment 1 still exists in the Library. Seems much like dettach? mmkay.

Scenario2: I delete attachment 1 from post 1. Suddenly (with no warning!), attachment 1 is ALSO deleted from post 2 AND the Library (even when it says ‘This attachment is a copy of attachment ID XXX’). WTF?

A simpler and clearer concept to grasp IMHO: Delete=Detach and period. Only dettach button and function exists in FG interface at page/post level (i.e. the ‘leaf’). If one really needs to DELETE any attachment from WP, he/she goes the the Media Library (up to the ‘root’ level) and deletes it from there, while double-checking other posts references, etc, (which is the expected state of mind anyway when dealing with any admin-level tool).

– Inline Image editing. When clicking the pen on a thumbnail for editing, I’d put the ID link below the thumb to open media.php in a thickbox instead of a new page. Feels more integrated that way, IMO.

– Lets include any other plugs that load in main media.php into that inline editor. I have a few enhancements (like image focus point fix) that would be nice to have handy in there.
