• Im having an issue here getting my feed validated and it wont get accepted into itunes. im so confused here and lost because ive been working on this for a week. The messages im getting i dont even have a clue how to fix or even where to start.

The first thing its telling me it cant validate rawvoice.com ive never typed that anyplace so that must be hard coded someplace and i dont have a clue how to get it out because i dont see it. Its also saying things like the title doesnt match the channel but im using category podcasting so i dont think i have a way to make it match. I had to type in the name of that particular category to make it work. (i think) im being told there are iframes in the tag but i havent entered any iframe anyplace. below is the full message and the validation link. HELP!

The namespace issue reported by Feed Validator is a common problem that has no affect on your feed being accepted by iTunes.

Make sure all of your iTunes information for the category feed are entered properly. You can check this from your WordPress dashboard by going to PowerPress >> Category Podcasting >> click the Edit link under the name of the category you’re using and make sure you’ve filled out everything under the Feed Settings, iTunes Settings and Artwork tabs.

Once that’s done, save make sure all your changes are saved and then run it thru Feed Validator again.

Thanks Shawn ill do all of that now. When i tried running it thru itunes before i got this message

Your episodes are hosted on a server which doesnt support byte range requests. enable byte range requests and submit again

When i did a google search on that i read that this is a generic message . This sounded odd because that error was very specific even tho i have never heard of byte range.

iTunes requires that your media files and artwork be hosted on a server that uses byte-range requests. This is necessary for users who’d rather stream your media instead of just simply downloading it and it IS necessary. iTunes will likely reject your feed no matter what if your server doesn’t support byte-range requests.

You’ll need to either contact your current hosting company and ask them to enable byte-range requests or you’ll have to find another hosting company.

Thanks Shawn for that. ive written to my hosting provider asking for them to enable it. Hopefully that solves that problem. As for the other issues i have gone thru and i have answered every question. The only ones i left blank were like the landing url’s where they say to leave blank if you want it to go to the category page. im still getting a bunch of errors when i go to validate it . One of the errors is that there is no category. I have 2 of the 3 categories filled in. Should i make up one for the 3rd or is that not going to be an issue?

Also its stating that i have iframes in there which i dont.

Go ahead and put something in that third category option just to be sure.

Looks like the iFrame is being generated by a Facebook plugin. I’d try deactivating the plugin and see if the feed validates after that. The iFrame thing may not impact your ability to get the feed accepted by iTunes, but turning it off temporarily will at least show you if it’s the thing causing the iFrame error in Feed Validator.

ok ill add another category. you can clearly read this stuff better than i do. does it say which plugin?

    (@shawnogordo)

Doesn’t give the plugin name but based on the code in there, it’s definitely some kind of social sharing plugin. Are you using Jetpack, by any chance?

i sure do! you hit it right on the nail there !

Sometimes, Jetpack and PowerPress don’t play nice. Before you turn off Jetpack, try this: PowerPress >> Settings, make sure you’re in Advanced Mode >> Media Appearance, scroll down to where it says “Having issues?” and select “Yes, please try to fix” from the dropdown menu. Then, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Save Changes button. Then run your feed thru Feed Validator and see what results come up.

Thanks Shawn trying that now. I also got a response from my host saying that Byte range requests are enabled by default. Here is my setup. my wp site is on Godaddy. my files are on a different server. That server says they enanble byte range requests but in searching im seeing conflicting information on whether or not godaddy does. None of my mp3’s are on godaddy however MY ARTWORK IS on godaddy’s server. Is artwork considered media?

    (@shawnogordo)

iTunes will want your artwork to also be on a server that accepts byte-range requests. Again, this is to make sure everything works for users who are streaming instead of downloading. If you can, move your artwork to that other host at least until your podcast is approved by iTunes.

    Thread Starter darryl505

    (@darryl505)

i moved my artwork there too and still getting the same message. I checked with them again and they assured me it was enabled. Do you know if there is a link or any way for me to point a url and send them back the message that shows its not? Also some of the things im reading online says that itunes says that message when it could be a host of other issues. have you ever heard this?

    Plugin Support Shawn

    (@shawnogordo)

There’s no way to link to an iTunes Store submission error page.

Also, I ran your feed thru a different validator called Podbase and it says your server isn’t providing the byte-range requests yet. So, you may want to double check with your hosting provider.

Podbase also seems to be stuck on your iTunes category tags for some reason so you may still be having trouble there.

Are you experimenting with adding/removing settings to your podcast feeds?

I just took a look, you must do the following with your category podcast feed settings in PowerPress:

    • Set iTunes email to a valid email address (this is the email they will send your approval email to)
    • Select at latest one iTunes category (this is the category you will appear in on iTunes)

This page (http://create.blubrry.com/manual/syndicating-your-podcast-rss-feeds/submit-podcast-itunes/) goes into detail specifically what is required and how to submit your podcast feed to iTunes. There are no shortcuts, you have to do everything explained on the page.

I am going to take a stab in the dark and assume you may be editing the wrong category podcast settings. Go to PowerPress Settings > Category Podcasting menu, make sure you have added podcasting to the category in question. This is where you will edit these specific attributes (since you are using category podcasting).
