Does that apply to a new post? Sometimes it takes a while for Facebook to find it.
Please also have a look at https://www.ultimatelysocial.com/making-the-right-image-show-up-when-sharing-on-social-media/. To make this work reliably we implemented a separate mechanism in the stated plugin.
All the posts I’ve tried it with were posted yesterday.
At one time I had two different Ultimate Social Media Share plugins—they were named slightly differently, but they both had the same settings interface. Yesterday I deleted one because I thought they might be conflicting with each other. So now the one I’m using is named “Social Media and Share Icons (Ultimate Social Media)” in my list of plugins, though it shows up as “Ultimate Social Media Icons” in the WordPress Dashboard sidebar. Did I perhaps delete the wrong plugin? Or do I actually need both?
That doesn’t have anything to do with it. The one you’re currently using is fine.
However, both of those don’t have the feature I mention above. That is only in https://www.ultimatelysocial.com/usm-premium/. But you can still try to make it work – albeit not that reliable – with the free plugins, e.g. if you use the Facebook debugger mentioned on https://www.ultimatelysocial.com/making-the-right-image-show-up-when-sharing-on-social-media/.
Hmmm. When I use the FB debugger, it shows me the post link and a preview image that is not my featured image. It also gives me these warnings, which seem potentially meaningful, though I don’t fully understand them:
Warnings That Should Be Fixed
Inferred Property: The ‘og:image’ property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.
Missing Properties: The following required properties are missing: og:type, og:image, fb:app_id
It doesn’t tell me how to fix them.
Yes, that’s exactly the reason why we implemented a separate mechanism which is reliable and places those og-tags in the plugin I stated.
Ok, I purchased and installed the Premium plugin. Can I uninstall the free version I was using? Or do the two work together somehow?
Yes, you can delete the free one. Please note that support for the premium is not provided in the forums, please raise a ticket for that (at the top of the plugin’s settings page). Thank you!
