Hello. Although I’ve blocked the “Photon/1.0” user-agent from my server, I see hundreds of attempts to hotlink our images every day using Jetpack.

So, it would be awesome if the pages attempting to hotlink our images were sent as the referer with the requests so we could track more potential copy/paste content thieves and mirror sites.

Right now, each request in the log has a blank referer and looks something like this:

    192.0.96.186 – – [05/Jun/2023:01:00:31 +0000] “GET /image.jpg HTTP/1.1” 403 5011 “-” “Photon/1.0”

Please let me know if you’d like any more info to help with this request.

    Hello @videochums

Thanks for reaching out to us and sorry for the delay in response.

The requests you are seeing above appear to be genuine requests from Jetpack’s Image CDN feature, formerly known as Photon.

You can have a look at a list of Jetpack’s IP addresses here as well: https://jetpack.com/support/how-to-add-jetpack-ips-allowlist/

If you are no longer interested in using the Image CDN feature, you can disable it from your Jetpack Settings in Jetpack -> Settings -> Performance -> Performance & Speed and turn off Enable site accelerator

Furthermore, in order to gain more insight and better assist you, could you please provide your site URL? This will help us understand your situation more clearly and offer appropriate suggestions.

If you want to do this in private, you can reach out to us via the ticket queue and reference this forum thread: https://jetpackme.wordpress.com/contact-support/
