If you want to hide the featured image on single post page then open Appearance → Customize → Posts section and disable “Show Featured Image” option.

how about the issue im having with the feature images not all a consistent size?
The best image size for featured images in Kale is 1200x800px so all featured images in demo page are rectangles. It seems that your images have 400x400px size so if you want to keep consistent size you need to add images with the same size.

right. but i didnt change the image. and the second feature image was a perfect square until i posted my latest post. then my latest post and that post feature image sized changed on their own. i didnt change it.
so how do i keep kale from changing my feature image size?

Could you see whether you have the Simple Image Sizes plugin – https://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-image-sizes/.
If you do, please check the dimensions of kale-thumbnail size to see whether it is 760×400 or 400x400px.
After that, please regenerate thumbnails.
