Fatal error when activating unread function

    Hello,

    Whenever I activate the unread function on this plugin, it breaks my site and gives me an error message:

    Fatal error: Can’t use function return value in write context in /home/content/89/10741389/html/wordpress_new/wp-content/plugins/bbp-style-pack/includes/functions_unread.php on line 17

    I’ve gone into the file manager via FTP and disabled the unread_function, but we’d like to use this functionality. Plus, whenever there is an update to the plugin, the site breaks again.

    Wordpress and all my plugins are updated to the latest versions.

    Any ideas?

    I suspect your php version

    go to

    dashboard>settings>bbp style pack>plugin information and let me know what it says for php version (3rd one down)

    WP version 4.9.5
    Theme Divi 3.2.2
    PHP version 5.4.19
    bbPress version 2.5.14-6684

    php 5.4 was end of life in 2015, and doesn’t work with my plugin.

    You need to upgrade to a current version of php
