Hi, I get the following error if I run my site on php 7.1.5 in my server error log:
PHP Fatal error: Cannot use $this as parameter in /mysite/wp-content/plugins/media-library-assistant/includes/class-mla-admin-columns-support.php on line 135

Also, I get HTTP 500 errors when I try to access my WP Dashboard, it won’t load at all. As soon as I switch the site back to php 7.0, everything works perfectly.

    Thanks.

Thanks for your report; I regret the trouble you’re having with the combination of PHP 7.1.x, Admin Columns and MLA. You can find more information and an interim solution in this earlier topic:

Fatal Error after upgrading to version 2.53

I will release a new MLA version with the fix in the coming days, but the Development Version should solve your problem until that’s done. I will post an update here when the new version goes out, but please update the topic if you have a problem with the Development Version. Thanks for your understanding and for your help.

    Hi David,

Thanks for the response. I’ll wait until I’ve installed the next MLA version before I attempt to use 7.1.x

    Many thanks.

I have released MLA version 2.54, which contains the fix for your PHP 7.1.x issue.

I am leaving this topic resolved, but please update it if you have any problems with the new version. Thanks for your patience and your interest in the plugin.

Hi David, many thanks for the help. This was the last thing I needed fixing before upgrading. I’ve upgraded to 7.1 now and everything is working perfectly.

Thanks for your post with the good news.

I am still using PHP 7.0.x because I found, as you did, that 7.1.x is much more stringent about source code validity and many of the new rules are hard to test for. I have 65 plugins loaded on my test system and several of them fail under 7.1.x.

Good luck with your upgrade; let me know if you find any other problems with MLA and I will address them.
