[Resolved] Fatal error : Call to undefined function mbstring_binary_safer_encoding()

  • Since my update to 3.6 it is not possible to update or add any plugins.
    I can’t even update to WP 3.8

This is the message I receive:

    Update WordPress

    Downloading update from http://wordpress.org/wordpress-3.8-new-bundled.zip…

    Unpacking the update…

Fatal error: Call to undefined function mbstring_binary_safe_encoding() in /data/sites/web/triskalcharmscom/www/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-filesystem-direct.php on line 62

Try re-uploading all files & folders – except the root wp-config.php & .htaccess files and the the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress 3.6. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

Thank you esmi, after this message I googled the code and found another post with the same problem (couldn’t find it through the search of the forum here).
They referred to this page : http://codex.wordpress.org/Updating_WordPress#Manual_Update

I was afraid to re-install it manually but it worked and have 3.8 now!
    Thank you again
