Thanks for the reply. I renamed all my plugins (using ftp)in my public_html folder on the server. I also renamed a number of php file in my wp-content folder. (Error messages told me what php file to correct or delete, when I tried to access my wp site)
I was able to login to my wp site then. My server automatically synced my public_html folder with my www folder. Using my ftp program (filezilla) I deleted my renamed plugins.

I then logged in to wp-admin and went to plugin menu, I had to activate my plugins, but everything is working again.

I was able to deactivate my original plugin that caused a problem and had no error message.

    Strange problem.
